OUR HISTORY

For more than 118 years, The Royal Restaurant has been one of the most popular eateries in Old Town, Alexandria.

For over 118 years, the Pikrallidas & Euripides families have welcomed and fed delicious home cooked meals to Alexandria residents and visitors from all walks of life. The Royal is Alexandria’s original iconic diner.

At the beginning, the Royal Café was located next to City Hall at 109 North Royal Street - where the present city square and fountains exist today.

In 1964, Gus and Richard Pikrallidas along with their nephew, Charlie Euripides,  moved the “Royal” to its present location. Later joined by his  wife, Barbara, Charlie expanded catering and continued operating the Royal until his passing in 2022.

Today, the sons of the Euripides & Pikrallidas families continue the tradition of delicious and traditional home cooked meals in a welcoming and hospitable atmosphere.
